A NEW play highlighting local talent is coming to Penistone Paramount for Arts Week.
Written by Paul Athorne and Lee Pollard, The Boys are Back in t’ Tarn will be performed on March 15, highlighting the opening day of the Penistone Arts Week, a festival celebrating local and national creatives.
Starring Sheffield-based Everly Pregnant Brothers’ frontman Shaun Doan - who has written an original song based on Thin Lizzy’s 1976 hit The Boys Are Back in Town - the play explores two rockers from the 1980s who are reunited after a song of theirs is used in an interesting advert.
Paul told the Chronicle: “It’s the third time me and Lee have been invited to the Paramount.
“We’re trying to do something that feels like Full Monty meets Spinal Tap.
“It’s the story of a band - Lucifer’s Love Child - who broke up in the 1980s.
“They reunite when one of their singles is used in a viagra commercial and they get lots of publicity from TikTok and a new generation.”
The group are in the final stages of rehearsals and excited for their on-stage debut.
“We’ve got three rehearsals left,” Paul added.
“We both say that the biggest buzz is on the day when people are coming through the door and taking their seats.
“I’ve acted before but I think I get a bigger buzz from seeing something you create come to life on the stage.”
