A PHOTOGRAPHER and filmmaker from Worsbrough has launched a new heritage project around the abandoned generation of miners.
Jake Smith, 22, told the Chronicle the pits had ‘always been a keen point of interest’ for him after having grown up in Barnsley and said hearing tales of working families within the mining industry have fascinated him for years, spurring him into the launch of this new project Union: Remembering Barnsley’s Finest.
“I decided to finally begin work on a photographic project documenting the seemingly lost faces of the mining industry,” he said.
“It won’t be an all-day job, we’d like to take some portraits and potentially hear some stories.
“The work will be exhibited in Barnsley at a location which is yet to be confirmed, as well as being available in a small photo book.”
Jake is seeking subjects to photograph across Barnsley and the surrounding area, and is encouraging anyone interested to get involved by sending an email to photojks@gmail.com or call 07772 182589.
All involved will receive prints of their own photos for participating and will also be offered an invite to the exhibition.
