A GROUP of students are inviting members of the public to watch their double bill of performances.
The Electric Theatre Company - which is on Falcon Street and run by Barnsley College’s Higher Education BA (Hons) Acting for Touring Theatre students - will take to the stage for a one-day only performance of D.N.A by Dennis Kelly and Road by Jim Cartwright on Wednesday April 10 at 1.30pm and 7pm.
This version of D.N.A follows a group of young people who accidentally commit a serious crime and then attempt to cover it up.
The version of Road explores the lives of people who live on an unnamed street in a deprived area during a time of unemployment in Northern England.
Peter Lawson, higher education pathway leader for media, music and performing arts at Barnsley College, said: “By telling the D.N.A story through the guise of young people, we’re looking at the entirety of society’s response towards cruelty, empathy, pack mentality, and some would even say bullying.
“Complimentary to D.N.A’s exposé of society, Road, despite its explicit nature, is considered extremely effective in portraying the desperation of people’s lives at the time, as well as containing a great deal of humour.
“We would encourage students studying towards GCSE or A Level English Literature and A Level Drama to take advantage of the opportunity to see a live performance of these plays.
“Our very talented actors have worked incredibly hard to do these plays justice and they truly deserve support.”
Tickets don’t need to be bought beforehand and are on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis, with all the proceeds going towards the students’ final acting showcase which will be held in Manchester on May 30.
