HIGHAM lost their opening game of the season but enjoyed a successful day off the pitch as the official opening of their newly-refurbished pavilion was attended by former England captain Mike Gatting.

The Barnsley club were the only side to host a competitive game this week – at home to Bradfield in Division Three of the South Yorkshire League – with the rest due to start over the next two weekends.

Higham lost four of their top five for ducks and were 16 for four but Glen Burden’s 50 led them to 153 all out.

Harry Bamforth took three wickets but the visitors won with seven down and two overs left.
