A PAIR of game developers from Barnsley dedicated their BAFTA win to their home town this week after picking up the ‘Best British Game’ award.

James Carbutt, from Wilthorpe, and Pogmoor’s Will Todd received seven BAFTA Game nominations for their project ‘Thank Goodness You’re Here’.

And at Tuesday night’s awards ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the duo picked up the coveted award.

James said: “It’s a great honour to be here and to be recognised by our peers from the Academy.

“To go from a stupid idea we had one weekend, all the way to this stage is quite literally really nice.

“Thanks to the translators who had the unenviable job of making our many jokes funny in a dozen languages.”

Will added: “It’s been such a privilege to make this game true to our vision and hopefully true to our home town.

“The lives of the people in communities like ours are important, and their stories are worth telling.

“To the kids growing up in Barnsley, and in towns like it, we hope that in some small way this inspires you tell your own story.

“If us two can do it, anyone can.”
