A BURLESQUE group’s first-ever show managed to raise more than £1,500 for Barnsley Hospice.
Lace Fatale Burlesque and Cabaret was founded by like-minded dancers who wanted to get together and choreograph their own shows.
After months of preparation, the team put together a charity showcase last month at the Trades Club on Racecommon Road in town where they all got to put their skills to the test.
Member Laura Stretton told the Chronicle: “It was a perfect evening - everything ran ran smoothly and we got lots of positive feedback from the audience.
“People were asking when the next one will be so they can buy tickets - it went as well as can be.”
Laura said she was pleased everything came together as it did, as the showcase was ‘kind of a big deal’ for the fledgling group.
Plans are already being made for future shows, though the event was about more than just the dancing as members also managed to collect £1,560 for Barnsley Hospice.
“It’s fantastic, we had some volunteers from the hospice there on the night to help run the raffle,” Laura added.
“They said how much they enjoyed it as well - at one point they had to run out to get more raffle tickets because they were selling so many.
“Next time we’ll probably pick another local charity to support, I think that’s the best way to do it.”
