SOME of Barnsley Football Club’s biggest legends will come together in February in a bid to raise much-needed funds for the hospice.

Kev Johnson, of Park Road, is a Rotherham United fan and has held a number of fundraising events for Rotherham Hospice - raising more than £40,000 in the process.

But at the end of August, Kev decided he wanted to do something for his home town and Barnsley Hospice and subsequently put on a Legends Night at the Metrodome.

Ex-Reds including Danny Wilson, Allan Clarke, Barry Murphy, Adam Hammill, Jon Parkin and Gerry Taggart took part in a Q and A session with fans and a staggering £10,411 was raised for the hospice.

Kev said: “I’m a Rotherham fan and I’ve done five events for Rotherham Hospice and raised £46,000.

“But Barnsley is my home town and so I decided I wanted to do something here.

“I don’t know Barnsley fans that well so I wasn’t sure if they’d get behind it but they definitely did.”

Kev has now chosen February 13 for his next event at the Metrodome - and he’ll be joined by legends Nicky Eaden, Andy Liddell, Adi Moses and Mick McCarthy.

“Nicky Eaden went to the last one and we said that he should come and do this one,” Kev added.

“I asked people on Twitter who they would want to see and a lot said the 1996 promotion squad.

“Then I though that Mick McCarthy could do it - it took a bit of time to tie him down but we managed it.

“We’ve sold 170 tickets so far and we had 250 people there in August - we just want to beat that.”
