THE government has announced a ban for single-use and disposable vapes in an attempt to stop youngsters picking up the habit.

Vaping in Barnsley has been on the rise, with a study of Google searches from earlier this year revealing the area is one of the worst in the country for young people attempting to buy illegal vapes.

The number of children using vapes in the past three years has tripled, with 20.5 per cent of children aged between 11 and 17 having tried vaping in 2023, according to Action on Smoking and Health (ASH).

The government’s new ban will come into action from June next year and is hoped to also help the environment as disposable products with lithium batteries often end up in landfills where they can leak harmful waste into the land.
