LOCALS are being encouraged to join in with local railway rambles to improve their mental and physical health.

These railway rambles, organised by the Penistone Line Partnership (PLP), are held twice a month and promote use of the Northern train service along the Penistone Line between Huddersfield, Barnsley and Sheffield.

The PLP is the community rail partnership which promotes all types of projects at communities along the line.

The promoter of the walks, Stuart Parker, told the Chronicle: “The walks mostly follow public footpaths to link between stations along the line by using the hourly train service serving local stations at Penistone, Dodworth, Barnsley, Wombwell and Elsecar.

“Our walks take us to all stations along the line and vary in length between eight to ten miles.

“Forthcoming walks will feature Penistone, Huddersfield, Silkstone Common and Dodworth.

“All are welcome to take part and join us, the walks are free with just the train fare to pay, wear suitable clothing and bring a packed lunch.”
