Barnsley Ladies gained their first win of the season in England’s second tier.

They won 38-17 at home to Novocastrians in Championship North One.

The Shaw Laners, who had lost their previous two games, are now sixth in the ten-team league.

Barnsley’s men were beaten 42-31 at Skipton in Yorkshire Three.

The Shaw Laners remain third-bottom but are now level on points with second-bottom Skipton.

Barnsley have lost four of their first five games of the season.

They are now due to host leaders Halifax on Saturday.

Wath suffered their first defeat since promotion to Yorkshire One as they lost their fifth game 42-22 at leaders North Ribblesdale.

Anthony Davies scored two tries with Curtis Brownrigg and Arran Tasker also touching down.

Jack Whitlam scored one of four conversions.

Wath are now sixth, having won four of five games so far.

They are due to host third-placed Pocklington on Saturday.

Dearne Valley are set to host Knottingley in Yorkshire Four, after not playing this week.

Wortley are due to host Hessle.
