PENISTONE Footpath Runner Dawn Broom earned selection for the England Masters half marathon team after coming second in the Redcar Half Marathon.
Selection was dependent on finishing in the top three in an age category. Dawn was second in the women’s over60 category in a time of 1-38-35.
Dawn’s husband John ran his fastest 10k in eight years at the Zetland 10k with 41-06.
A few Penistone runners took on the hilly Ambry 10k which took place around Almondbury. James Mumford led early in the race but eventually finished third in a time of 39-25. Lois Lopez was second woman in a time of 48-53. Krystina Beresford of Kingstone Runners finished 61st in 70-34.
It was a weekend of big miles for three Barnsley Harriers. Simon Haywood competed in the Hardmoors race. Covering more than 64 miles, the race starts in Guisborough then heads north to Saltburn, then hugs the coast all the way down to Filey. Simon finished 40th in 15 hours, six minutes and 22 seconds.
Jeff and Bev Clark finished 14th in the mixed pair category at Equinox24 – a relay race in which team members take it in turns to cover a 10k lap. Bev and Jeff managed to complete seven laps each in just over 24 hours.
Barnsley AC’s men’s team finished 39th out of 121 teams in the Northern Six-Stage Relays held at Stanley Park in Blackpool. Their total time was 1-52-54. Individual leg times were: Josh Bird, 18-01; Brad Walker, 19-05; Shaun Yates, 19-59; Gareth Cooke, 17-42; Morgan Thompson, 18-36; Nathan Doy 19-29.
Barnsley AC’s Alan Nutton completed the Warrington Half Marathon in his second fastest time with 1-24-37.
