Davis Keillor-Dunn would welcome ‘quality’ signings up front in January but praised the forwards currently at Barnsley.

Keillor-Dunn and Stephen Humphrys have played regularly together up front, with Max Watters - who is just recovering from injury - and Sam Cosgrove on the bench. The Reds are thought to be hoping to sign a new striker in the January transfer window.

Keillor-Dunn told the Chronicle: “I want as much quality in the team as we can get. I came to the club to play with big players. You have got great players - Cossy, (Fabio) Jalo and Max champing at the bit to get in the team. The more we get will only benefit us.”

The Reds have one of the best away records in the division but the 21st-best home record, a discrepancy which head coach Darrell Clarke believes is related to the players’ mindset.

Keillor-Dunn said: “Personally it doesn’t affect me one bit whether it’s home or away. I wish I could give the answers. The gaffer is scratching his head. Why do we seem a different team away? The fans have been brilliant for us and spurring us on to get that home form going.

“I don’t know whether teams up their game at Oakwell and players possibly want to get to this club.

“We have to put it to the back of our minds and build momentum. We have had really good runs then a dip. If we put wins together then we can keep winning whether it’s home or away.

“I understand there is frustration but we will keep going and we have to better.”

Keillor-Dunn is looking forward to the run of four games in ten days starting from Boxing Day.

“I just forget about the days and don’t know whether Boxing Day is Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. I love it. Games come thick and fast and that’s how you build momentum. Hopefully there will be a few more goals over the Christmas period and a few wins to go with it.”

Keillor-Dunn has scored six goals since signing in August from Mansfield. He said: “I have loved every minute. I am frustrated I haven’t got more goals. It’s a good and tough league.

"I want to score important goals for the team, get the lads up the table and get top six places. That’s what I was brought to the club for. I am a little bit frustrated haven’t been able to do that more.

“I have been a bit of a bit scrooge over Christmas. My misses is saying: will you smile a little bit more? It’s the standards I have set myself. If I miss chances I am a bit gutted.”
