Zac Zachariah, Barnsley Football Club chaplain

WHAT happened to the thief who stole a Christmas calendar? He got 12 months.

Welcome, you Reds.

This time of year is a busy one for many, especially for our team, as the festive period brings a packed schedule of games. The true historical reason for celebrating Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ.

We celebrate birthdays to honour those who live, and as the good book says: “Today in the town of David, a saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”

Knowing that our Saviour is alive makes it possible to truly celebrate.

It reminds us of God’s plan for humanity, offering peace, hope and unity to the whole world.

He is the reason for the season.

We also take a moment to remember Mr Barnsley – the incredible Norman Rimmington AKA Rimmo (with the anniversary of his death coming up).

He began his journey with Barnsley FC at the age of 23, first as a goalkeeper and then over the years as a player, coach, groundsman, physio, and kit-man. What a legend.

To our dedicated owners, players, academy and all staff, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering commitment and hard work.

Your passion and dedication inspire our fans to surf every wave forward.

We hope the holiday season brings you joy, rest, and the chance to recharge for the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead and into 2025.

And to our fans – may this Christmas bring happiness to you and your families. Let us carry the spirit of giving, love, and unity both on and off the pitch.

I’m thankful to have completed two years as the club’s chaplain, following in the footsteps of our beloved former chaplain Peter Amos.

I look forward to the exciting adventures that lie ahead.

And finally, we welcome Leyton Orient to Oakwell this Saturday… (We three kings of Orient are…)

God bless, you Reds.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and successful New Year.

COYR. From your club chaplain.
