A ROYAL British Legion standard has been permanently placed in Barnsley Hospital’s chapel after a deal was struck.
The ‘Pogmoor standard’ lost its home when the nearby Methodist church on Wade Street closed its doors.
Standards - famously used by the Roman Empire - are a rallying point so soldiers can spot their unit.
They are ‘dedicated’ before being taken into use and are ‘laid up’ in a sacred or public building after service.
The standard was handed over to Lead Chaplain Connie Ashton in a moving military ceremony and service last Thursday.
A Barnsley Hospital spokesperson said: “The trust recognises the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families bring to the hospital workplace.
“We are an armed forces-friendly organisation and have pledged to support the armed forces community by encouraging and welcoming their applications.”
