DETECTIVES have now made two further arrests in connection with the death of Alan Sutton in Monk Bretton on Sunday, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.

A 50-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of affray, with a 36-year-old woman also arrested on suspicion of affray as well as perverting the course of justice. They both remain in police custody at this time.

A 19-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and assault, with a 41-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray and assault. They have all been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

On Sunday, police were called at 4.23pm to reports of an altercation between a group of men on Burton Road. Alan Sutton, who was 41 years old, was found with suspected stab wounds and sadly died at the scene.

Callum Strachan, 21, of Burton Road, Barnsley, has been charged with murder. He appeared at Barnsley Magistrates' Court today where he has been remanded until his next appearance at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday.
