EXCITEMENT is growing as fans look forward to the Tour of Britain’s arrival in Barnsley next Thursday.
The cycling event will travel across South Yorkshire, starting in Sheffield at 11am before ending in Barnsley town centre.
Road closures across the borough will be in place throughout the day to allow the race to take place.
The finish line for this stage - the third of six across the whole competition - will be on County Way outside The Seam, the council’s digital campus, with cyclists expected to celebrate finishing the 800-metre-long sprint between 2.50pm and 3.35pm.
Next to the finish line there will be a fanzone, with a big screen allowing spectators to watch the event, live performances from local entertainers and bike sessions for children.
Oliver Coppard, South Yorkshire’s Mayor, said: “The Tour of Britain coming back to South Yorkshire is not just exciting, it will help inspire the next generation of cyclists.
“Together we can make the local leg of the Tour of Britain men’s race one to remember by getting out to support the riders, by enjoying the spectacle and excitement of the race and by taking part in the brilliant community events.”
