Barnsley host local rivals Sheffield United in the second round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday from 7.45pm.
The Reds – who won on penalties at Wigan in the first round – will be looking to reach the third for the first time since 2021 when they lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Blades were relegated from the Premier League last season, after they replaced former Reds boss Paul Heckingbottom with the returning Chris Wilder last December.
They have taken five points from their three Championship games so far and beat Barnsley’s fellow League One club Wrexham in the first round of the cup.
Barnsley head coach Darrell Clarke said: “It should be a good game. It’s a derby. I have a lot of respect for Chris. It’s a tough tie but one we look forward to.”
The Reds have won just one of the last seven meetings, a 3-2 home victory in April 2018 under Jose Morais.
The Blades have visited once since, winning 3-2 in 2021 then completing the double the following March.
United have only lost two of their ten games at Oakwell this century, winning four.
They have two of Barnsley’s 2019 promotion heroes in striker Kieffer Moore and goalkeeper Adam Davies.
The Reds are winless in ten home games in all competitions. The club record is 12.
