MORE than 30 people helped raise hundreds of pounds for two charities by taking part in a sponsored walk at the weekend.
Starting at 10am at Silkstone Railway Station on Saturday, those in attendance used the Trans Pennine Trail to walk to Worsbrough Mill.
The event was organised by the Mayoress of Barnsley Doreen Clarke - and the funds will be distributed to Age UK Barnsley and The Well, a wellness programme.
She told the Chronicle: “The walk went really well.
“There were about 30 people who took part in it.
“We had a really nice walk down to the mill and we did some raffles for the two charities.”
Coun John Clarke, Mayor of Barnsley, added: “We’ve got £450 raised on the Just Giving page and then we collected probably another £300 on the day.
“It was a great day.
“There were some representatives from the two charities so people were able to find out some more information about them on the day.
“We’ve got some more events planned but they’ve not been finalised just yet.”
