Barnsley centre-back Jack Shepherd has been out loaned out to League Two Bradford City for the season, having signed a new two-year deal with the Reds.

The 23-year-old joined last summer from non-league Pontefract Collieries and made 13 appearances in all competitions before being loaned out to fellow League One club Cheltenham Town, then managed by current Reds head coach Darrell Clarke, where he made a further 13 appearances.

His new contract includes an option for Barnsley to extend it by another year.

Sporting director Mladen Sormaz said: “Jack made a big step up into league football last season and we want to continue his development. What he needs this season is a lot of games, and we feel League Two is the right standard. Bradford are a good club to bring him on and we will see how he develops this campaign.”
