FOUR speed indicator devices have been placed across Darton East following concerns from residents and local councillors.
The devices warn drivers when they are speeding, and were in place on Darton Lane, Spark Lane, Staincross Common and Paddock Road until last Monday.
Two further devices are now situated on Bar Lane and Wakefield Road.
Coun Steve Hunt, who represents the area, said: “It was apparent from watching the behaviour of drivers that they are making a difference in slowing down many vehicles.
“Two of the SIDs will stay in the area and will be located on Bar Lane and Wakefield Road until May 27.
“We are delighted to finally see some progress from the Council on rolling these important road safety devices out.
“It has been quite a saga.
“It is good to see some progress but it has been painfully slow.
“We would like to see many more SIDs in Barnsley.
“They are commonplace in neighbouring local authorities.”
