ROAD safety improvements are set to be introduced at a busy Wombwell junction following residents’ concerns.
The crossroads between Wood Walk, Hemingfield Road and Dovecliffe Road - next to Wombwell’s train station - have been raised with local councillors as a site of concern for motorists and pedestrians especially at peak times.
Following investigations by Barnsley Council’s traffic team, a scheme has been developed to improve signage on the approach to the junction to alert drivers and encourage them to take due care and attention.
Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, told the Chronicle: “I’m pleased to see this scheme has been designed, in response to concerns raised with me by local residents, to improve the signage on the approach to the crossroads and encourage drivers to take care.
“These improvements are proportionate to address the issues we have at this junction and improve safety for road users.
“My thanks to the traffic team for their work on this, I look forward to seeing the scheme delivered in the coming months.”
