Barnsley have signed Pontefract Collieries defender Jack Shepherd for their under 21s side.
The 21-year-old is from Barnsley had spells at Penistone Church, twice, and Athersley Rec before impressing with eighth-tier Pontefract.
He is the second centre-back to sign from non-league this summer after Kacper Lopata joined following spells at Woking and Southend United.
Meanwhile, the Reds have also signed 17-year-old Bayley McCann – the son of their former midfielder and now Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann.
The full-back was previously at Peterborough United, whom his father also managed, and was an unused substitute for an FA Cup game last season.
