Harpreet Singh will meet up with his friends in the India team during their tour of England this summer, while he is confident of being in one of their future touring parties if he continues his current form for Barnsley Woolley Miners.
The former India A batsman followed up last week's 121 with 154 off 133 balls in a win at Aston Hall this week, as he smashed 18 fours and three sixes. Singh, 26, said: "Playing for India is my main target. It would be a huge honour for any player to play for their national team.
"That is what I am working towards and hopefully I will achieve it. If they are free in the next few weeks, I will meet up with the squad because a few of them are my friends."Hopefully in the future I will be coming with them to tour England instead of playing club cricket."
After scoring 125 runs in his first six league innings of his second Barnsley season, Singh is now the club's top-scorer with 400 at an average of 50 and is closing in on last year's total of 699. He said: "I am very happy. Every batsman would have a good feeling after scoring two centuries. It took me four to five games to settle in this year.
"I was hitting the ball very well from day one but it was just a matter of a big score, and they have come in the last two games. As overseas professional, you have to handle pressure and be the best player for your team."
Singh has been challenged by his captain Jason Booth to score 1,000 runs this season. He said: "I obviously want to get as many runs as possible but I want to focus on each game one by one instead of focusing on very big things."
Singh is enjoying his time at Shaw Lane. He said: "It's good to play 12 months of cricket all year round. I play six months First Class cricket in India then another six months in Barnsley. They are all nice people at this club, of a very helpful nature. We have a very good team this year with some good young players like Boeta Beukes."
Barnsley have won nine of their last 12 games in all competitions and have moved up to fifth in their 12-team league. They are 44 points behind leaders Whitley Hall but Singh is hoping to cut that gap in a game against the table-toppers tomorrow and challenge for the title. He said: "I always target spot number one and I still believe we can win the league. That is our target."
