PLANS to add an additional 19 rooms to a Tankersley hotel have been approved by Barnsley Council’s planning board.
An application was submitted for work to take place at the Premier Inn, on Maple Road, in May.
A total of 19 new hotel rooms will be added to the site in a new building - although car parking spaces will be lost.
A report states: “This application seeks full planning permission for the erection of a detached building which will provide additional hotel bedrooms.
“The proposed building would be two-storey and situated at the western part of the existing car park, though to the south of the current hotel building.
“The proposed bundling would provide 19 new hotel rooms as well as associated plant room and linen stores.
“The siting of the proposed detached building would result in the loss of 35 car parking spaces, a reduction from 137 to 105 spaces.
“Four of the existing ground floor hotel bedrooms will be converted into a new breakfast room within the main hotel building.
“However, the only external alterations involved include the installation of new AC units and ventilation openings.
“This means the development results in a net increase of 15 hotel rooms.”
Seven neighbouring properties, council partners and councillors were made aware of the plans.
However no responses were received.
The plans were given the green light earlier this week.
