A TRADITIONAL butcher’s cellar has been discovered underneath a Dodworth shop where renovation works are taking place.

The cellar contains stone tables and what the owner believes is a dry-curing oven, and is underneath the shop next door to Locked In Time Antiques and Vintage Tea Rooms on High Street.

It was discovered by David Lock, who owns Locked in Time and the adjoining shop where the works are being carried out.

He realised there was something underneath the floorboards when something fell down a very small hole and seemed to take a while before it hit the ground.

David, 56, said: “We had to find out what it was because we were worried the floor might drop in. But we opened it up and there it was.”
