AMATEUR artist and ex miner Dennis Ackroyd has got his pictures into a top art gallery after impressing a BBC painting challenge.
Dennis, 75, entered the Little Painting Challenge, a spin-off competition from the BBC programme the Big Painting Challenge.
He had to send off samples of his work painted on the back of blank postcards and set to work doing a snow scene, woodland scene and moors scene.
Judges were so impressed they decided his paintings should be shown at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. Dennis's work was selected from 30,000 entries.
Dad of four Dennis, of Cherry Tree Street, has been painting all his life and has also tutored adult art classes although he has had no formal training himself.
