A new medical centre is planned in Shafton.
It is earmarked for High Street, believed to be near the primary school, and will have doctors, nurses, a chiropodist and dispensing pharmacist.
Coun Alex Vodden said it was too early to indicate how much the centre might cost or who owns the land.
Dr Magdi Selim will be the practising doctor and will move from his present location in the Age Concern building on Sceptone Grove.
He set up the practice in addition to his Brierley surgery and originally planned to move into a unit on the Ben Bailey estate but it has been ruled out.
Dr Selim said he hadn’t recruited enough numbers to make a move to the Ben Bailey estate viable and because it is primarily a residential development it wouldn’t be suitable for a GP’s surgery.
The Shafton surgery was set up earlier this year following a campaign by local residents and a petition with 1,600 signatures.
