BARNSLEY Hockey Club's men's team face a relegation-decider against fellow strugglers Doncaster on Saturday.
The Reds are currently third-bottom in Yorkshire Peak and Wold Division One.
They are still unsure whether two or three clubs will be relegated but may recieve clarification before the match starts. Barnsley are three points clear of second-bottom Doncaster and two behind fourth-bottom Chesterfield who have played all their games.
Barnsley have an inferior goal difference to Doncaster so will drop below their neighbours if they lose, but a draw would keep them third-bottom while a win would take them above Chesterfield.
The Reds won the league last season but have been fighting at the other end throughout this campaign.
The game is due to take place at Darton College from 10.30am.
Chairman Chris Kelly said: “We are working on the worst case scenario that we need to win. Because of the way the league is set up, you have to accept that sometimes you won’t know how many teams will be relegated before you play.
“They need to keep certain teams in certain areas so they don’t have to travel too far, and they move teams around after everyone has finished their games.
“It will be a little bit like a cup final and the winner takes all. We’ve arranged for neutral umpires so there are no fingers being pointed. We have struggled with injuries a lot this season, sometimes playing with just ten men.”
