Oakwell has always meant a lot to me.
Growing up in Barnsley, the club’s always been part of the community and something I’ve felt connected to.
I’ve had some great memories there with friends and family, and now to be stepping into the ring on that pitch is something really special.
I’ve always been a fan of players who gave everything for the shirt, and Conor Hourihane was one of them. Seeing him back at the club, now leading the team, just feels right.
He knows what Barnsley is all about, and I’m confident about the future with him in charge.
On Saturday June 7, I aim to create another of those memorable moments down there on the pitch at Oakwell. The big difference is, I will be in the ring fighting Italy’s Ivan Zucco for the European super-middleweight title.
Last summer, when I fought for the British and Commonwealth titles, the atmosphere blew me away.
To see so many familiar faces amongst the red army and hear the incredible noise as I walked out is something I’ll never forget.
We sold the place out, and we’re set to do the same again.
Tickets went on sale to season ticket holders at lunchtime on Wednesday and the site crashed for the first couple of minutes as so many fans piled in for tickets.
As of today, Friday, tickets are going on general sale but we don’t expect them to hang around for long, so please don’t wait.
This town, this club and the supporters have a massive impact on me every time I step in the ring.
I can just feel that pride and passion coming through, and it gives me an incredible edge in my fights.
This European title shot against an unbeaten opponent will be the biggest challenge of my career so far.
I’m taking nothing for granted.
I’ve been doing double gym sessions every day, and haven’t really slowed down since the first of my two fights this year back in January.
It means I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got.
And now I’m asking you, whether you’re a season ticket holder, a lifelong supporter, or someone who just loves this town, to stand with me again and make Oakwell a fortress.
When I win, I’ll become the first Barnsley born and bred European champion.
That’s something I’m incredibly proud to be fighting for.
This isn’t just about belts.
It’s about showing the world what Barnsley is all about. Oakwell is special, we all know that, but on June 7, we can create something unforgettable.
Let’s do this together.
