A BARNSLEY restaurant has been handed a one-star food hygiene rating.
Rigby’s, based at the Barnsley Metrodome, received the score following an assessment on December 30.
In response to the score, a spokesperson for Rigby’s said that they are determined to regain their five-star food hygiene rating.
They said: “At Rigby’s, we are committed to providing safe, high-quality food for our customers.
“Since the introduction of the food hygiene rating scheme ten years ago, we have consistently maintained a five-star food hygiene rating, which demonstrates our dedication to excellence in food safety and hygiene standards.
“Following our recent inspection in December 2024, where we received a food hygiene rating of one, we acknowledge that the result was primarily due to concerns regarding the confidence in the management of the kitchen.
“We take this matter very seriously and have acted swiftly to address the identified areas for improvement.
“Since the inspection, our head chef and wider kitchen team have undergone comprehensive re-training on our food safety management systems that are already in place.
“We have implemented detailed improvement plans and worked diligently to complete all the actions outlined in the inspection report.
“We have worked with the food safety team at Barnsley Council, who are satisfied that we have acted swiftly and addressed all the items identified during the food safety inspection.
“As a result, a request for re-inspection has been submitted and accepted by the food safety team at Barnsley Council.
“We are now waiting for a re-inspection to take place and are confident that the changes made will reflect our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food safety.
“We sincerely thank our customers for their continued trust and understanding as we work to regain our good hygiene rating of five.”
It means that of Barnsley’s 265 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 215 have ratings of five and just one has a zero rating.
