BARNSLEY Council bosses have reiterated their support in helping young children through the Great Childhoods Ambition scheme.

The scheme was launched last summer as a borough-wide, collaborative approach to support all children and young people in Barnsley, providing them with the foundation for a successful future.

Barnsley Council leader Sir Steve Houghton said that the scheme will have a huge impact on youngsters across the borough.

He said: “The Great Childhoods Ambition is one of the biggest initiatives that we’ve ever done for children and young people in Barnsley, and we remain committed to ensuring no child is left behind.

“We are dedicated to making sure every child and young person in our borough makes the most of their time at school, acquires the right skills for future jobs, and makes the most of the opportunities available.”

Coun Trevor Cave, cabinet spokesperson for children’s services, said: “This initiative is a testament to our belief that every child deserves the best start in life, and we are proud to support them in achieving their dreams.

“We are looking forward to working with our partners across the board to our commitment to create a brighter future for children and young people in Barnsley.”

A host of events will be taking place throughout half-term to celebrate the scheme, with a full list of projects available on the council website.
