POLICE have promised to crack down on illegal raves at a Penistone beauty spot which have seen residents’ houses ‘shake’.
Officers from Barnsley West’s Neighbourhood Policing Team have been conducting extra patrols at Langsett Reservoir.
They say that a number of illegal raves have been taking place at the site in recent weeks.
A spokesperson said: “These patrols will continue in the coming weeks and we will use our preventative powers under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to disrupt any such events.
“You may think such raves are the actions of people having fun.
“However, they have a detrimental impact on local residents, wildlife, and the environment and will not be tolerated.
“This is private property and anyone accessing it without permission are trespassing.”
Coun Hannah Kitching told the Chronicle that these types of events have no place in the community and added that music has been heard into the early hours of the morning, literally ‘shaking houses’.
She added: “These events are incredibly disruptive for local residents, who appreciate the peace and quiet of living in live in the Langsett area.
“Residents have described how their whole house shakes, depriving the whole family of sleep.
“The music can sometimes be heard across Penistone.
“On top of the noise disruption the events leave behind litter and mess in the beautiful Peak District National Park.
“I’m delighted the police are actively involved in monitoring the area to help prevent these events, and I have a site meeting planning with Yorkshire Water to further address the matter.
“This is trespassing, and it is illegal and unwanted in our local community.”
