THREE Barnsley Karate Centre students won golds at the EKF English Championships in Sheffield.
Jodie Ward won the women’s veterans sparring category, as well as silver in kyu grade kata, while Bradley Laughton took the kata title in visually impaired and Kara Bond was Para kata champion. There were kata bronzes for Ethan Butcher, in the Para section, and under seven Lucia Crossland. Kata is the non-contact category of the sport.
More than 1,300 competitors took part from clubs all over England.
Others who competed from the Shaw Lane club were Riley Shinn, Mable Hardcastle and Isabel Hibbert.
The coaches were Chris Leather, Shoany Hudson and Craig Bond.
Chief coach John Tumman said: “The students have been working so hard for this event since before Christmas and have shown real determination and focus. Everyone has put hours of practice in and have reaped the rewards. Everyone at the club is so proud.”
The club is part of the national Shindo Kai group who won the overall top association of the competition with 11 gold medals.
