A CHARITY which was forced to close its doors to the public last month officially opened their new hub at the weekend.

Peter Robertshaw-Corbett set up the foundation H.O.P.E (Helping Others Positively Engage) In Community was founded as a community group in 2017.

It became a charity in 2020, a month before lockdown, and subsequently opened its community hub in the town centre in 2021.

However, Peter was told that they will no longer be able to use the site on Peel Square as a new tenant has been found.

The shop closed its doors late this month but Peter opened the new store in the town centre on Saturday.

It was opened by the Mayor of Barnsley Coun John Clarke and Lady Rowena Montagu Stuart Wortley, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire.

Peter said: “We want to say a massive thank you to everybody who came and supported us, even with the weather not being great.

“Thanks to your tremendous support throughout the day we have made a whopping £696.66.

“Without your support and the hard work of our volunteers we truly wouldn’t be where we are today.”
