BARNSLEY-BORN actress and famous Coronation Street star has begun filming her new show in Northern Ireland.

Katherine Kelly, who played Becky McDonald in the ITV soap opera and starred in Mr Bates vs The Post Office - one of this year’s most successful shows - is currently filming ‘In Flight’ in Belfast.

Kelly will portray flight attendant Jo Conran, whose son has been sentenced to 15 years for a murder he insists he did not commit.

However, things only get worse when a gang uses her son’s situation to blackmail her into smuggling drugs, pulling her into ‘a murky underworld of corrupt cops and hired killers’, according to the synopsis.

The six-episode series, co-created and written by Mike Walden - best known for Marcella - and Adam Randall, who penned Slow Horses, does not yet have a premiere date on Channel Four.

Katherine said: “I am really excited to be taking on the role of Jo and I can’t wait to tell her compelling story.

“I am delighted to be working with Buccaneer Media again and it’s joy to be filming in Belfast.”
