SOUTH Yorkshire Police are working with Barnsley Council after a number of travellers set up camp in Goldthorpe.
A number of caravans were seen to pitch up on Dudley Drive last week, prompting the police and council to try and take action.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police told the Chronicle: “We were made aware of the presence of a number of caravans at Dudley Drive in Goldthorpe.
“We are working with the landowner and Barnsley Council in relation to this incident and our officers have been in attendance to provide support.
“There have been no offences reported.”
Coun Deborah Pearson, who represents the Dearne South ward, added: “I was concerned to see the unauthorised traveller site.
“While appreciating that everyone has a right to a safe place to live, an illegal set-up cannot be tolerated.
“All efforts will be made to ensure that the residents are swiftly and peacefully moved on.”
