A DIVIDE which separates a main road from a sprawling public space has been targeted by a group of budding hedge layers.
Andrea Walker, Reece Milthorpe and Dan Perry, from the South Area Team, attended a hedge-laying course on the A635 Doncaster Road, Darfield, next to its boundary with the space known locally as Longbow Field.
Hedge-laying is a technique using live shrubs and trees to create a living fence.
Specialist Jasper Prachek guided the team with his wealth of knowledge and expertise to lay a section with a view to the team being able to put these skills gained into action at a later date.
Andrea said: “The course has been fantastic it’s great to learn a traditional way of crafting and maintaining a hedgerow.
“The benefits for our wildlife and the environment are huge.”
Coun Kevin Osborne, of the Darfield ward, added: “It’s great to see traditional skills being passed on to a new generation in our community.
“Hedge-laying is more than just a method of boundary management - it’s a vital practice for promoting biodiversity, providing wildlife habitats and enhancing the rural landscape.”
