A GROUP of Barnsley residents will take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge tomorrow to help raise funds for their nephew who has been diagnosed with bone cancer.

Fran Birkbeck will be joined by a number of people this weekend, including local celebrity Sam Nixon, as they aim to raise funds for 11-year-old Brodie.

Brodie is currently fighting a rare form of bone cancer for a second time.

He lives in Stoke-on-Trent with his mum Stacey Sykes and a fundraising campaign has already raised more than £30,000 in just a few months.

Chloe Powell, who is also related to Brodie, told the Chronicle: “My auntie, Fran, will be doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks this weekend with her husband.

“Sam Nixon is going to take part as well.

“The aim is to raise enough money for an integrative medical practitioner who will work with Brodie for some private healthcare.

“We’ve raised £32,000 so far and we’ve been fundraising since the summer.

“We’ve been doing raffles and lots of other things which have been doing really well.”

Chloe is also set to host a medium night at Carlton Village Club later this month with Anita Sykes.

“On October 30 we’ll be doing a medium night for Halloween,” she added.

“It’ll take place at Carlton Village Club.”
