MOTORISTS on Barnsley’s stretch of the M1 have been warned about using mobile phones while driving.
Roads policing officers have been prowling the motorway in HGVs over recent months in a bid to catch those doing so.
Those caught have been warned they face having six points on their licence and a £200 fine.
A spokesperson said: “You can use hands-free mobile devices while driving your car as long as you do not hold them at any time during usage but the device must not block your view of the road and traffic ahead.
“You can get six penalty points on your licence and a £200 fine if you use a hand-held phone when driving.
“If you get six points within two years of passing your test you will lose your licence.”
