Barnsley are close to signing Sweden international striker Victor Edvardsen, according to reports overseas.
Swedish and Dutch news outlets are reporting that he could join the Reds on a season-long loan from Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands.
The Chronicle understands Edvardsen is a target – and has since been spotted apparently doing a medical at Oakwell – but not the only deal being worked on as Barnsley look to strengthen their forward line before Friday's transfer deadline.
Edvardsen, 28, played for a series lower league Swedish clubs, with a prolific goal-scoring record, before reaching the top flight with Degerfors then moving to one of his country’s biggest clubs Djurgaardens.
He moved on to Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch top flight last season, netting six goals. Edvardsen has played for them five times this season including on Sunday. Edvardsen has one senior cap for Sweden, against Iceland in January last year, and has been a regular in the Europa Conference League.
Barnsley have also been chasing Mansfield Town's Davis Keillor-Dunn all summer and he is thought to remain a target. The Stags have previously demanded £750,000.
