A BARNSLEY bakery has been voted the best in South Yorkshire at the England Business Awards.

Handaran Bakery, based in Barnsley Market, received the highest votes in the Best Bakery category and was awarded a special plaque by the organisers at an awards ceremony.

They will now go on to represent the area in the Grand Final later this year.

The bakery’s owner, Loghman Ghasemi, said: “We are overjoyed and honoured to receive this award.

“It is a recognition of our hard work and passion for baking.

“We are grateful to our fantastic customers, who have supported us and voted for us.

“We are also thankful to Barnsley Market, who have been so supportive of our business since joining the market earlier this year.”

Coun Robert Frost, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, added: “We are delighted and proud of Handaran Bakery’s achievement.

“They are a valuable and respected member of our market community, and thoroughly deserve this award.

“Barnsley Market is a vital part of our town centre regeneration, and Loghman and his team have been a fantastic addition to the market and is a favourite with visitors.

“Our commitment in supporting Handaran Bakery and the hundreds of market traders in the town centre and across our borough will continue for years to come.”
