Darrell Clarke had mixed feelings on Barnsley’s 4-3 friendly win over Derby County on Wednesday night and confirmed young striker Fabio Jalo had injured his shoulder.

The Reds took the lead then came back from 2-1 and 3-2 down to win in injury-time.

Clarke said: “It wasn’t the greatest defensive performance but I thought my lads did well and the game changers who came on played a massive part. Some positive and negatives but it’s nice to get the win even though it’s only pre-season. The lads who came on made a difference and they are pushing for a start which is good.”

Striker Jalo came on at half-time but had to come after the injury.

Clarke said: “It’s too early to say but he was in tears. Let’s hope it’s not as serious as it looked. The kid has a massive amount of talent. We’re trying to get him fitter and he has been. He’s been decent in pre-season. Last season he was used a bit part but we wanted him to start more games this season.”

Clarke wouldn’t comment on reports that Barnsley are set to sign Blackburn Rovers left-back Georgie Gent.

"I don't like to comment until deals are done and signed on the dotted line and I know for sure that's not a fact.”
