OLIVER Rowland finished the Formula E season with victory in the final race in London, putting him fourth in the overall standings.

The Penistone man, who is 31 next month, has enjoyed his best ever season as an individual.

He finished on the podium six times and won two races. His team Nissan came third in their championship.

Rowland had picked up just a point from the previous four races, having been ill for the double-header in Oregon, USA last month then finishing 15th in the first race in London.

But, on Sunday, he moved up from ninth to win late on during a dramatic race.

He took the lead but was forced to move back as it was judged the overtaking had happened while the safety car was out, then re-took the lead and held it until the race finished.

Rowland said: “The perfect end to a fantastic season.

“I never expected to win.

“I got a great start and picked my moments in a crazy race.

“Once I got to fourth, I didn’t want to get too involved in the title fight, so I waited and hoped for something to happen, which it eventually did and I managed to pick up the pieces to win the race.

“We should be very proud of our season, the target was to build as a team and we’ve achieved a lot. We’ve been consistently competitive and it gives us a great platform for next year. Thanks to the whole crew for their work and I looking forward to being back.”
