BARNSLEY Road Club staged the Yorkshire Black Diamond Sportive as part of their centenary year.

Seventy riders travelled to Barnsley, some from as far afield as London, then set off from Woolley cricket ground.

The route closely followed the Barnsley Boundary Footpath by road.

It covered more than 80 miles with more than 6000 feet of climbing – about the same as climbing Scafel Pike twice.

“I’d like to send a huge thank you to all the club members involved in organising the event and to Woolley Miner’s cricket ground for hosting this event” said the club chair Alastair Gittner.

“And thank you to all the riders.

“We do hope it will become an annual event and you all return for an even bigger and better event next year.”
