Barnsley man John Stones suffered a second successive defeat in a European Championship final.
Stones, the former Reds player, played the full game as England were beaten 2-1 by Spain on Sunday in Berlin.
The Thurlstone man has now played in two Euros finals and a World Cup semi-final and quarter-final in his five major tournaments, with 79 caps, but is yet to win any international silverware.
Former Barnsley loanee Ivan Toney came off the bench late on.
