Judo player Lachlan Moorhead, from Penistone, will not be going to the Paris Olympics.

The 24-year-old told Commonwealth Games gold medallist was knocked out in the second round at last week’s World Championships in Abu Dhabi.

He the Chronicle: ““Unfortunately, after the World Championships, I have not earned enough world ranking points to qualify for the Olympic Games.

“While this stings to say, I regret nothing of the last three years.

“I have spent it obsessed with and immersed in my sport.

“I have given everything, had a great time, and am magnanimous towards those who have qualified above me.

“I’m sure I’ve improved and achieved more than most people expected, and I’m proud of this.

“I feel I’ve paved a way for other young fighters from Yorkshire who will be joining me at the highest level in coming years.

“I will be back, and I’m excited to do it again while being better at judo.”
