THE Cawthorne Crafty Ladies are hoping to knit thousands of poppies for this year’s Remembrance Sunday.
The group, based at Cawthorne Methodist Church, only began the project a few weeks ago but already have aspirations to surpass last year’s knitting exploits.
For this year’s celebrations they hope to have knitted poppies on display across the village.
“We’re all busy knitting or crocheting different poppies at the moment,” church co-ordinator Margaret Cooper told the Chronicle.
“We’re hoping to have them up two weeks before Remembrance Sunday.
“Some people are still finishing off other projects, like the blankets we knit for old people - we’re going to need a lot of them to make it work.”
Margaret and the group hope to make it a village-wide project and are inviting anyone to help out.
She added: “You can do it with the group or from home.
“We’re also looking for lots of red wool, or donations so we can get red wool.
“Closer to the day we’ll be doing collections for the British Legion, so it’s a village project and a community project.”
