A FOODBANK run from the home of a generous local is aiming to increase its donations following high demand over Christmas.
Feeding Families For Free, run by 24-year-old Georgia Brown, began providing support to local families during the Covid lockdowns.
In the years since, the small charity has been growing and now provides clothing, toys for birthdays and even occasional mascot visits.
For 2024 they are stepping up their output, setting the goal to provide 75 food parcels, ten clothing bundles and ten new toys every month for free.
Georgia, from Monk Bretton, told the Chronicle: “Over Christmas we obviously had loads more people asking for food and toys.
“So we’ve set these goals and we’re hoping to do a lot more this year.
“It costs about £10 to £15 a parcel and we fund that all ourselves, so donations mean a lot.”
Unlike other foodbanks, Feeding Families also provides fresh foods like milk, vegetables and bread, to help people make more varied meals.
“A lot of people we work with struggle affording gas and electricity,” Georgia added.
“It means they’re limited with what they can cook, so having stuff like bread to make sandwiches gives them easy options.
“I absolutely love being able to do this.”
