TOM EDWARDS and Josh Benson are close to returning from injury but Monday’s game at Accrington Stanley could be too soon.

Edwards missed Saturday’s win over Burton Albion with a knee problem.

Benson has been out for three weeks with a hamstring problem sustained at Peterborough.

Assistant coach Martin Paterson said: “Tom has a short-term injury.

“He will be close in the next week or so. I don’t know if Accrington will be too soon.

“I believe Josh has been making slow progress on the grass.

“He’s closer than we envisioned when he got the injury.

“But I think Accrington will possibly be too soon.”

The Reds had several players absent from training last week with illness, including Adam Phillips who could not play on Saturday.

But Phillips is now back in training and could play on Monday.

On the illness, Paterson said: “Slowly it is improving.

“It’s not completely eradicated.

“But last week was considerably worse. We’re getting everybody patched up. We will have enough time for everyone to be OK for the next game.”

Slobodan Tedic, Luke Thomas, Will Hondermarck and Jordan Helliwell are all out long-term.
