A LOCAL cafe is appealing for help as they aim to create a large memorial ahead of Remembrance Day this year.
Maggie’s Cafe in Monk Bretton is hoping create a memorial wall on the side of the building, made out of knitted poppies donated from people in the community.
However, the cafe’s knit and natter group have already made around 500 poppies and they’ve barely begun to scratch the surface.
Owner Maggie Wood told the Chronicle: “Someone in the knit and natter group came up with the idea - we’ve got a big blank canvas on the side of the building we can fill.
“But it’s only a small group, we’ve got 20 people in total but there’s only about 12 who come in every week.
“They’re only small poppies - we got a design online and they take around 30 minutes to make.
“We just need lots of them.”
Anyone wishing to help can donate poppies to Maggie at her cafe on Tennyson Road.
